PROCESS
After being introduced to Unity and the world of Virtual Reality design, I received the challenge of creating a short experience that would leverage my working knowledge of the software, while still being immersive and entertaining. When defining "immersive," a definition that was discussed in class was "the ability to transport in time and place." I tried to think of non-VR experiences that achieved that, and that's how the band Surfaces came up. Their songs and album art create a feel-good atmosphere of peace, and nearly transport you to a sunset at the beach even if you're really in your Downtown LA dorm.

In creating my lab, I decided to leverage the Surfaces brand to create a world inspired by the band. My goal was to allow the user to discover the band's music as they interact with an environment that was truly inspired by it. For the purposes and scope of the lab, I was only able to create a short demo, but I was extremely satisfied with the result. I am excited to keep developing it in the near future. In order to create the island environment, I downloaded and customized a combination of different 3D asset kits, using Unity and Blender. The video was shot as a proof-of-concept, as I recorded myself interacting with the environment in Oculus Quest 2.
